Timor-Leste rises from sea level to 1,526 metres in barely 70 kilometres. On this journey, you won’t simply watch that landscape change through a vehicle window. You’ll experience it gradually, from the saddle.
Beginning along Dili’s waterfront, the route leads inland through rice-growing valleys, eucalyptus ridgelines and cool mountain communities before reaching Maubisse, one of the country’s best-known highland towns. The return to the coast brings long descents, changing temperatures and a final sense of just how much ground you have covered.
The cycling is rewarding, but it isn’t designed as a test. Riders of different abilities are welcome, and the pace is shaped around the group. A support vehicle follows every cycling day, allowing you to skip a climb, rest for part of the route or rejoin where the riding suits you best. The lead cycling guide is also an experienced mechanic, so everyday bike issues can be handled on the road.
After five days of cycling, the journey slows down with a day on Atauro Island. Clear water, village life and locally made crafts provide a relaxed closing chapter after the physical challenge of the mountains.
